Objectives
To reduce the destructive effects of alcohol & drug addiction and abuse amongst our people and communities. To provide first nations communities with current best practices and community based culturally relevant programs deliverd by certified addictions counsellors in an accredited facility.
Key Components
Unique strength based therapeutic wellness program centered in traditional aboriginal values. Beliefs, tradition, culture, language and spirituality are recognized and respected. Our model builds on our power and strength to overcome addictions; as well as providing the tools to reclaim self worth, pride and wellness.
Use of traditions or ceremonies
Our programs use medicine wheel teachings, seven sacred teachings as well as sweat lodge, and talking circles.
Role of Elders
Elders are engaged to facilitate various workshops on culture, language, spirituality and traditional pastimes.
Role of youth
Outreach prevention has youth participate in capacity building workshops, peer helpers are educated in many aspects of addiction and bullying. This training leads to youth providing workshops at school to their peers for school credits.
Evaluation Design
Programs are monitored by the management team. Attendance, exit surveys and evaluation forms are the main feedback process.
Evaluation Results
Popular workshops are re-offered / Those that are not so popular are reworked and retried or scrapped. Workshop development is ongoing.
